Alien ‘Wow’ Signal – Were They Talking To Aliens Already Here?

SETI, the ‘Search for Extra-terrestrial Intelligence’, was conceived in 1959, after the publication of a short paper which proposed a search of nearby Sun-like stars, near the 1420 MHz neutral hydrogen frequency, for artificially generated signals.

Ohio Radio Telescope - Wow!

Two physicists, Philip Morrison and Giuseppe Cocconi, had reasoned that to see if any extra-terrestrial intelligence was trying to contact us we needed to look for radio transmissions as they are able to travel vast distances in space.
The physicists theorised that aliens would go for a frequency that would mean something to creatures who know maths and chemistry. And hydrogen is the most common element in the universe.
If you agitate a hydrogen atom, it resonates at a particular rate, 1420 megahertz (MHz).
So they said we should search for a signal coming in at 1420 MHz, which is loud, as if someone was trying to catch out attention.
As part of the SETI programme, on August 15 1977 ‘The Big Ear’ radio telescope in Delaware, Ohio was carrying out an automatic sweep of the sky through the radio wave spectrum when it picked up an unusual signal, which was collated and then printed out, to be analysed by volunteers later.
These printouts were sent to SETI volunteer analyst, Professor Jerry Ehman of Franklin University in Ohio, who was checking the results four days later, when he came across the readings for the abnormal signal, exactly as had been predicted

Stars and pulsars naturally produce radio wave signals, or low-frequency waves of electromagnetic radiation, but these are over broad spectrums.

The 'Wow' Signal

Professor Ehman saw that the radio signal in the printout was an unusually strong spike, a very short but very strong radio signal and extremely close to 1420 MHz, it was actually at 1420.4556MHZ, microscopically away from that predicted.

The radio signal was a sequence of numbers and letters, 6EQUJ5,

Without getting too technical.
(Full explanation at: http://www.bigear.org/6equj5.htm)
The ‘6EQUJ5’ code shows successive intensities as follows:
6 – the range 6.0 – 6.999.
E – the range 14.0 – 14.999.
Q – the range 26.0 – 26.999.
U – the range 30.0 – 30.999.
J – the range 19.0 – 19.999.
5 – the range 5.0 – 5.999.
The value “U”, in the range 30.0 – 30.999 was the largest value ever seen.
So in the margin of the printout, Ehman circled the results and wrote one word “Wow!’
An understatement if ever there was one in the world of astronomy.
That radio spike became known as the “wow” signal and it suggested that possibly, just possibly an alien world had beamed a message to us. After roughly two minutes, the signal stopped
All that is certain, is that the signal wasn’t natural.

Whereas the Wow signal was located on the narrow band frequency close to 1420 megahertz, the natural emission frequency of hydrogen
The “Wow!” sequence itself is not a message, but rather an un-modulated signal…
The numbers and letters in the computer printout are a representation of the signal amplitude, as received at the radio telescope.
The symbols represent the number of standard differences by which the received signal exceeded average background noise, on a scale of zero to 35.

So a zero means the signal is no stronger than background noise, 10 is ten units above background noise.
In the ‘wow’ signal, the strongest peak of the actual signal, is 30 standard deviations above the mean background noise in the receiver, it couldn’t be more different to the background noise!
Astronomers around the world search the skies for months and years after the “wow” signal, but now, nearly 35 years later, it has never been repeated.
Until!
To follow soon:

A second wow signal, one I KNOW from my ‘informed source’, is a signal from an alien civilisation that is here on earth.
The same alien race that arrived on the Roswell UFO!
